CULTURE: When your mind takes an aesthetic turn, where do you turn for some “real culture”? The Air Force Armament Museum next to Eglin Air Force Base, the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation with its variety of cultural events, and the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville are great places to start. South Walton’s Seaside Repertory Theatre is a great newish outlet for good plays. There is always something going on down 30-A. Why start at Greyton Beach and work your way down? the And don’t forget that every day is a cultural day of some sort Sandestin Beach Golf Resort.
DINING: Of course food is always welcome after working up an appetite playing on the beach or in the waves. What’s on the menu? Fish of course, and all sorts of seafood. What about a steak? Or Mexican food. Or Chinese or Thai? It’s all available in the Destin-Fort Walton-Panama City Beach area. With all the tourists who comes here, you know that restaurants and food good times have to follow. So get your much on and relax with a full belly. You can always go to the beach again tomorrow!
SPIRIT: The body is willing to be on the beach…but the spirit needs some quiet, down time? What about these places to escape from the crowd and noise of the beach. There are plenty of Yoga studios in the area, or churches, or meditation groups: take your pick!
EXERCISE: Outside is a great place to exercise, no doubt. But there are good locations to lift some weights and do more controlled exercises. Gold’s Gym has more than one location. There are also 24-hours gyms and specialty gyms if you choose.
FUN AND GAMES: Yes, the beach can be all fun and games. But there are some games that you can only play indoor. Bowling for instance. You’re in luck! There is a brand new bowling alley at Destin Commons. Check it out for some family fun!
Don’t feel stuck on the beach when you’re on the Gulf Coast. Shake things up and try something indoors. Even the Florida sun can get tiring after a while.
