Giancarla Macaluso who left the event early relates what her friend, a nurse, said about the shooting:
“He said that they (the gunmen) came in the entrance and just started to shoot — bullets and blood went everywhere.” “I don’t know what prompted this — it’s just crazy. There is so much good in this city, but I guess there is an element of craziness. It’s such a shame. It makes me sad and angry,” said Macaluso.
Authorities are suggesting this could have been a “neighborhood beef.”
Police say they are seeking other suspects.
According to sources, the second shooter is in custody. The motive remains undisclosed at present. Early indications are that this is not a terrorist incident.
Early reports suggest the shooting began as a fight between individuals and was not a coordinated attack.
Trenton mayor, Eric Jackson said at a press conference:
“This is truly a tragedy for Trenton. My most sincere sympathies goes out to the victims and the families and the attendees and organisers of this event. All shootings whether large or small are a crisis… It’s a fact that our cities as well as our suburbs throughout America are experiencing an increasingly in public shootings and public unrest such as this. This isn’t just a random act of violence – this is a public health issue.”
At least one of the suspects has been identified as a 33-year-old man. He is thought to have been shot by police on the scene.
Speaking of one of the victims, a 13-year-old boy, Onofri said: “He is in extremely critical condition… It absolutely could have been worse given the confined space and the number of shots that appear to have been fired.”
Onofri said that the Art All Night festival was likely not the target: “All indications are that this was a dispute between individuals that occurred at Art All Night.”
Mercer County’s Prosecutors Office Homicide Task Force has stated they will lead the investigation as there was an officer-involved shooting.
Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said,”Multiple weapons have been recovered.”
In Trenton, New Jersey a mass-shooting incident has taken place. Details on the ground are sketchy at present but early reports suggest that at least 20 people have been injured and one of the two gunmen has been killed.
The shooting occurred at around 2:30 a.m at the 24-hour Art All Night show near the Roebling Market.
Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri held a press conference and confirmed that 20 people have been injured, at least 16 with gunshot wounds.
Witness Angelo Nicolo said: “I saw two police officers escort a guy that got shot in the leg. They bandaged him up and whisked him away.”
According to Mercer County Prosecutor’s office, a second suspect is in police custody.
Another witness, Franco Roberts said: “Everybody ran toward the door,” he said. “And the people fighting and shooting got mixed with the crowd that was running and they went out the door shooting.”
Two suspects have been identified; one was pronounced dead and the other has been taken into police custody .
